We are one of two German speaking Lutheran
congregations in Melbourne. We were founded in 1960 by immigrants
from Europe. They settled here to work in nearby factories.
We are named after John the Baptist.
Our emblem shows the waves of the Jordan, the river in which
John baptised Jesus, and a fish. The letters of the Greek
word for fish, Ichthus, spell out our belief:

Jesus
Christ God's
Son (our) Saviour.
|
Jesus Christ is to us the one and only
Saviour, who rescues His people from sin and death. We found our
belief on the Bible and we believe that the interpretations of important
passages of the Bible given by Martin Luther are correct. Therefore
we call ourselves Lutherans. Our faith is summarised in the Bekenntnisschriften.
We gather for worship on Sundays, for Bible Study Groups and in
different age groups. The services are usually held in German, but
English is the main language used in the work amongst the younger
people.

The
rose is the symbol of the Lutheran Church. It was designed
by Martin Luther. It means: If Jesus Christ is in your heart
(governs your life), you are purified from sin (white rose),
you have access to heaven (blue background) and life eternal
(golden ring).
