I am Lutheran. Will I automatically be assigned to a German Lutheran parish in Melbourne, as is the case when people relocated within Germany?

No automatic allocation to a German Lutheran parish occurs in Australia. Anyone interested in the Lutheran Christian faith is invited to attend our parish and can consider a voluntary membership.

Do you offer confirmand classes? If so, how do I enrol my child for the classes?

St. Johns parish in Springvale offers confirmand classes on a regular basis, and these usually begin in May each year. The confirmation ceremony takes place one year later. The confirmands meet on Sundays after the 10 am service in Springvale. Please contact the parish office, or our pastor directly, if you would like to enrol your child for confirmand classes.

What do I need to consider if I want my child to be baptised in the Lutheran faith?

How can I support the parish financially?

In contrast to Germany, no church tax is collected here in Australia. The congregational activities in the St. Johns parish have been funded fully from donations for many years now. This includes all wages, maintenance of our buildings, and all expenses associated with parish life.
