We are a German Lutheran congregation with German roots.
We live in an English speaking country. Many Germans have a partner whose mother tongue is English. Their children grow up in the Australian context and generally attend English language schools and have English speaking friends. Experience shows that the third generation of immigrants at the latest have assimilated within the country to such an extent, that German has become more of a foreign language to them and no longer a “language of the heart”. That is why our parish has decided to offer bilingual services to enable all family members and generations to access the Christian faith in a German-Lutheran context. Passing on important German traditions to the next generation is a vital aspect of this too.
